In the seasons 1-8, shippers put bids for two shipments on uShip. This is done in an auction-style reverse. Bids include comments on the potential risks and costs as well as the motivations and skills. The task is typically assigned to the bidder with the lowest price at the time that the auction closes. At the discretion of the customer, it can be given to a bidder with a higher price who has received a better rating in feedback from previous clients. To break any ties, feedback ratings are utilized. Season 9 shippers get their cargo through a shipping broker. They aren't aware of the bidding process. Instead, the winners load the cargo and try and deliver it intact prior to the deadline set by the client or receiver. After the loads are delivered, the clients leave feedback ratings. After the episode, the revenue of each shipper is tallied on-screen, with the cost of the transaction (fuel and labor, late delivery penalties, fines, etc.) The bid amount is subtracted from the total profit and loss. Sometimes, a shipper may decide to transport additional loads in the same journey. This money will be added to their tally. The shipper may not be able to finish the job due to safety issues or the size of the load. Sometimes, one of the shippers will contract the help of a different shipper to finish a task. The shippers then determine how they will split the profits. Seasons 1-8 are filled with funny criticisms by the other shippers.
